GE Partnered With the Wastewise Program

Cor-Jus Enterprises reports that GE Appliances has become a partner in the WasteWise Program, a voluntary initiative that focuses on waste reduction, saving environmental resources while reducing emissions in accordance with the U.S. EPA.

GE is also partnering with the EPA’s SmartWay Program to help lower transportation-related emissions. GE is already an EnergyStar & Responsible Appliance Disposable Program partner. GE has become the first appliance manafacturer to partner with all four envirnomental impact initiatives.
According to polls made by GE they found that roughly 70% of consumers want all or part of their appliances recycled and 82% will go out of their way to buy from a manafacturer that recycles.

By partnering with the RAD and WasteWise Programs, GE has commited to significantly reduce the landfill waste of appliance disposal. GE has targeted to save landfill waste by 318,000 lb monthly which adds up to more than 3.8 million lbs annually.

GE Appliances has also committed to more environmentally friendly transportation. Of the roughly 144 million miles that their inbound appliance parts and appliances traveled in the U.S. in 2010, 80% were with EPA SmartWay carrier partners.
