Cor-Jus Enterprises has learned that GE Appliances this Spring has opened a new plant to manufacture high-tech refrigerators and freezers within its Appliance Park manufacturing campus in Louisville. It follows by one month the opening of another new on-campus plant for producing GeoSpring water heaters that had previously been made in China.
These two new plants are a part of a series of GE appliance manufacturing investment initiatives that began in 2009, totaling 1 Billion and will create 1,300 new U.S. jobs by 2014. Among these new jobs will be found: skilled salaried jobs, engineering, industrial design, manufacturing and other skilled positions.
Appliance Park had once been the biggest appliance manufacturing site in the world, had been allowed to shrink by GE in order to cut costs by shifting to less expensive sites. With new government incentives, a more efficient approach to R & D and with the cooperation of labor GE is reviving its campus to its former glory.
Three sister-sites are being built in Blooington, IN; Decatur, AL; Selmer, TN; all focus being on becoming manufacturing “centers of excellence”. They are expected to create hundreds of new, green jobs, using a more efficient and ecologically safe foam insulation that reduce the overall carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases used in production. By locating both the designing & manufacturing teams in the same area the hope is that a large shift in collaboration and problem solving which, will lead to a shortened development time, resulting in better products for consumers.
