Did you know that the 1st clothes washer sold was in 1797? It was a scrub board and not very effective and was replaced in 1851 by James KIng. His was a drum washing machine, however it was still hand-powered.
The first rotary washing machine to be patented in 1858 by Hamilton Smith. The Thor, A Hurley Machine Company, was the first electric machine using a galvanized steel tub, however water dripping and electic issues cause many fires. It wasn’t until F.L. Maytag in 1907 that the first machine was perfected. Whirlpool began giving them competition in 1911, the past 100 years has seen many advances but all built on the same idea.
